Monday afternoon I worked on things in the gym towards improving my game. People think that strength and conditioning don’t have anything to do with swinging a golf club but they would be wrong. To compete at a high level you have to do whatever it takes to put yourself one step above the other person. I started out with specific stretches to warm up and used weighted rations to loosen up my back. I than started to target specific muscle groups with exercises: lunges, wall sits, cactus sit, etc. After this I ran for 30 min to work on my cardio. After time in the gym, Mr. Chavka took me to New Milford to see the Pro Mr. Paul. One of the tasks we did was a golf pro simulator. This simulator asks you to hit certain yard markers with different clubs. At the end of it all the simulator tells you what your handicap is. Mine that day was a 4. With handicaps the lower the better. Pro golfers are what we call scratch golfers, this means their handicap is 0. After this we talked about things I needed to work on to improve my handicap. One of the things we talked about what my knee placement being off. My left knee tends to want to come in towards my right knee. I need to instead direct it more towards the golf ball allowing me to control my accuracy more.
